Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) were prepared for selective recognition and determination of pseudoephedrine (PSE) and its sulfonate derivative, used as active pharmaceutical ingredient in pharmaceutical preparations. The synthetic procedure of MIP was based on copolymerization of methacrylic acid with PSE and its sulfonate derivative using benzoyl peroxide as a free-radical initiator. The obtained polymers were characterized by using attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The recognition and separation experiments were investigated by using capillary electrophoresis. The results indicate that the obtained MIPs are efficient for recognition of PSE and its sulfonate derivative.
